Learning Clinical & Communication Skills for Practice - 12th December 2006 Maximising Learning in Practice Conference

CETL includes healthcare educators from dentistry, medicine, midwifery, nursing, radiography and speech and language therapy.
This conference is for healthcare practitioners involved in the teaching and assessment of clinical and communication skills. It is an opportunity to:
- exchange ideas about educational practice across our different settings
- discover what is happening within CETL
- update on the latest educational thinking
- share good practice within the CETL and the wider community of Hospital and Community Trusts and Associated Teaching hospitals
- discover our students’ views
- consider how to integrate learning in the workplace and in simulated environments
- explore how to optimize learning opportunities available in a busy working day

9.30 – 9.45 Introduction to the conference
9.45 – 10.30 “The role of work based learning in developing clinical and communication skills.” Keynote Lecture Prof David Boud, Professor of Adult Education and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Technology, Sydney.
10.30 - 10.45 Questions, Discussion
10.45 – 10.55 Students’ views – Video presentation on students’ perception of learning clinical and communication skills.

10.55 - 11.15 Learning in simulated environments – Students’ survey. Presentation by Dr Della Freeth and Prof Elizabeth Davenport followed by questions and discussion

Conference Speakers
|
David Boud is Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Technology in Sydney. His insights and expertise in the fields of Workplace and Organisational Learning will be of particular interest to all involved in healthcare education.
Dr Della Freeth is Reader in Education for Health Care Practice in the Health Care Education Development Unit, School of Nursing and Midwifery, City University.
